How my life has changed

Guess who is 1 month old today?

Yep, our little Ruthie. She is gaining weight (5lbs 5oz a week ago), she slept 4 hours straight last night and she likes going to the beach. Today we went to church in Mendocino and after a soup lunch we walked down to the beach, found a great big log to rest against, lay down our blanket and cozied up in the sun for a couple hours. It was magnificent. Just what we needed. The sun was warm and the ocean breeze rejuvenating. Sundays are my only day off, so we try to make the most of them. This one was perfect.
My life has changed quite a lot in the last month. Today I took a moment to think about those changes and I wrote a short poem about it. Here it is...

How my life has changed.
By Greg "Dad" Klassen

Oh, how my life has changed.
I have a baby girl now. Before, I didn’t have one.
Sleep used to be sound. Now sleep
has a sound.
I buy diapers now.
I now know soothers are one of God’s great gifts to mankind.
I don’t like snaps.
Bath time is now the most exciting part of my day.
I have a strong preference for Pampers over Huggies.
I now use the word “onesie” almost every day.
My baby girl is the sweetest thing in the world.
I’m so glad my life has changed.

The end.

Between going to the beach, changing diapers and writing poems - don't worry - I have been doing some woodworking.

After Ruthie was born I decided to make a small, manageable box - a break from the large cabinet that I had started on. Here are some pictures. It is made of teak and mendocino cypress and took me 8 1/2 days to make. I call it "Ruthie's Box."

  2. Anemone has the same soother, but it looks very different on her! I can't believe how big the soother looks in Ruthie's mouth! Congrats on the 4 hours of sleep. It is amazing what an extra hour or two of sleep can do.

  7. She's changing a lot, but still so tiny! I don't know anything about soothers, but your poem was very cute. Oh, and I love the picture of you holding her. :-)
