Saturday was a quiet day for us. We went on several walks throughout the day. On one of the walks I came up with a great idea for a game. I call it, “Catch the Falling Leaf.” Basically, you stand under a very tall tree, wait for the wind to release a colorful leaf and then run around like mad trying to catch it before it falls to the ground. I caught two. I’m pretty good at it.
In the evening we downloaded and watched the first episode of The Office, season 4. We laughed so hard it was silly. We’re just really happy that Jim and Pam are finally dating. (Oh, for those who care, I met a guy this summer who was childhood buddies with Jim).
Today we went back to the church in Kalmar. They had a translator for us and we were supposed to listen to him through headphones, but the battery wasn’t charged so it didn’t work! Oh well, we’re getting used to understanding very little. We’ve even made up this game that we play during school meetings and classes, where we pretend to interpret for each other by listening for the Swedish words that sound like English words. “Good morning” in Swedish is pronounced good moron so we always laugh that people are calling us morons in the morning. But not just morons…good morons! And the other day we were in a meeting and we heard “The Sikhs are coming to eat hot dogs.” We both looked at each other and burst out laughing in the middle of the meeting.
This afternoon a couple from church invited us and several other twenty-somethings over for lunch and we had a nice time. We met some interesting people and also got to see our Lithuanian friend, Egla, again. She’s really sweet.
This week Barb and the first year ceramic students are having a guest teacher come to teach how to make things with molds and plaster. She’s excited. I have found the wood for my chairs and I am going to begin this week. I am planning on doing something experimental with steam bending the wood for the back legs. I hope it goes well. It will be my first time trying to bend wood with steam.
Fall has come with full force to Sweden. It is beautiful here right now. There is a new chill in the air and the leaves are a colorful blanket on the ground. It feels like fall is supposed to feel – it’s great.
Baby update: Barb is starting to feel the baby move! I can’t wait till I get to feel it with my hand!
I like the fart theme in your pictures. I'm not sure if Shiks eat hotdogs, but the game sounds better than just being frustrated with not understanding. It's fall here too, I love it. Talk to you soon and love you both
